“Waiting for that golden moment when fear and desire die, and only the unspeakable reality of love remains. “

I love sunsets, and this is a pic of the sunset we had about four days ago.  It was so magnificent and firey orange that I pulled over on the freeway to take a couple of pics.  This is one of them.  Every time I see them I think of how God can make something beautiful out of something so bad.  Polution.  There is more to it then that, but without pollution we would not see a sunset the way we do now.

Pollution softens the sky’s colors, because the particles of dust and dirt are scattered and are of varying sizes, so the wavelengths sunlight of light passing through the particles are mixed. This lets us see muted tones, more middle of the spectrum.

Only God could make something beautiful of something so ugly.

    Those are beautiful pictures, smlwoman!

How very true that some of our most magnificent sunsets have been caused by pollution. For about a year after Mt. St. Helen blew her lid, the sunsets along the Western states were unsurpassed.

It’s funny you should mention that Yvensong. I was in Washington when Mt. St. Helen blew. We watched it from our back yard. I was still in grade school and the ash got so bad we had to wear painters masks to be outside. It was shortly after that, that we moved back to Nevada. I remember there was a man who lived across the street who’s whole garage was filled with birds in cages. Those birds went balistic during the eruption. I remember that it was always grey outside, even on sunny days, and when it rained the drops were thick with ash. I also remember a man who would not come off the mountain because that was where his wife was burried. I believe he died there and was burried naturally with his wife. That was really sad to me as a kid.
